Dear Friends,
The Urban League of Essex County (ULEC) is a non-profit organization with a proven track record for responsible community building and development. Our professional staff provides a bridge for families that need help in obtaining employment, educational services and support services that will allow them to become economically self-sufficient. Our goals are:
We have recently launched several new programs including the work co-op program to address the evolving needs of our Essex County constituents. The co-op program targeted unemployed residents and trained them in a professional skill. Each participant in this program was trained in commercial painting and business fundamentals. It was recently recognized by Mayor Cory Booker of Newark as the kind of effort that can accomplish real change in our communities.
At the Urban League, we believe that it will take hard work and tremendous sacrifice, but we can make great progress by committing ourselves to each other. Change will happen but it must be built, not on fancy rhetoric, but on quiet and consistent action. In these challenging times, the Urban League believes it is uniquely positioned to be an important agent for social, economic, and community change.
We all want the same thing for our communities – better jobs, better schools, and an overall better quality of life. We can have all of these things and more by working together and supporting each other’s efforts. Why not join and become a member? ULEC partners with individuals, businesses, government, and other community groups to make the dream a reality.
Respectfully,
Vivian Cox Fraser
