Tutoring Services

The vision of the Academic Foundations Tutoring Program is centered in the basic premise that all children can learn when they are nurtured and taught by knowledgeable and caring adults who believe in them and are committed to their growth. By organizing and empowering parents and recruiting and training an outstanding group of positive adult role models, the Urban League works to ensure the healthy intellectual, physical, emotional, and spiritual development of children living in economically disadvantaged areas.

Academic Foundations Tutorial Program

Since 2005, we have been a state approved provider of supplemental educational services (SES) and successfully served over 2,000 students attending schools in the Newark, East Orange, and Irvington school districts. Funded by The No Child Left Behind Grant (NCLB), our Academic Foundations Tutorial Program provides small group tutoring to students in grades 1 through 12 in Language Arts and Mathematics. Students who attend a school in need of improvement (SINI) and receive free or reduced lunch are eligible to receive free tutorial services. Our curriculum is researched based and closely aligned with the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards to ensure the effectiveness of services. Led by a team of highly qualified teachers and tutors, we provide quality individualized instruction and are committed to providing the highest level of service to our students and families. By improving the academic skills in our students, we are adding to a more educated and informed community which are key components in community development.
