With the right information, resources, and support, everyone can find the right volunteer opportunity. Why should you volunteer? Because of volunteer efforts, children involved in mentoring programs are doing better in school, and parents can become self-sufficient by working while knowing their child is well care for at the Urban League.

Volunteering is easy and fun, with a flexible time commitment. You can learn new skills, meet new people, and make a positive difference in the community. While you’re learning something new, volunteering also reduces stress by helping you think positively and feel good about yourself. Whatever your reason for volunteering, it can be wonderful experience.

At this time, we have many valuable, important, and fun volunteer opportunities available at the Urban League:

• Canvassers: We are looking for upbeat, energetic, personable volunteers who can join us in canvassing, our important outreach tool that puts in face to face contact with the community.
• Reception Desk: We are looking for people who like to be the center of the universe and can develop professional demeanor in person and on the phone. Help is needed from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., 12:00 pm to 2:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
• Pre-School Volunteers: We are looking for people who love children, have a great deal of patience to work with little ones, and have the ability to captivate the children with imagination and creativity! Help is needed from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
• After-School Tutoring Projects: We are looking for people who would like to see the wonder of a child learning. We have great need for tutors in our public housing project and at our tutoring site in East Orange.
• Building Maintenance: We are looking for people who are good with tools and can assist with maintenance jobs such as fixing cabinets, hanging banners, and fixing office machines.
• Special Events: We are looking for people who like to be in the thick of things and can help plan, organize, and host community events and other special events. Events range from our annual block party to an elegant party on your veranda to our annual gala.
