Urban school districts throughout the country have been struggling to improve the quality of education being delivered to the students entrusted to their care. Under the No Child Left Behind Act, schools that are identified as being in need of improvement (Newark, East Orange, Irvington, and Orange among them) are required to offer supplemental educational math and literacy services to eligible students.
The Urban League of Essex County is a state authorized provider of supplemental educational services and would like the opportunity to provide these services to all eligible children who attend schools that are in need of improvement. Our organization has strong ties to the Newark, Irvington, East Orange, and Orange communities, and for over 40 years has been providing a number of important services to Newark residents.
